I’ve always been a ‘body conscious’ person. Growing up I was forced to be active through sports & teams but it was never really something I was interested in. As I entered HS, I stuck to the arts & originally majored in fashion design at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. It was then that my body image began to become skewed through the under-fed models and overly thin look everyone seemed to want & yearn for.
I turned to food & dieting as a way to ‘fix’ myself; still trying for that ‘skin and bone’ runway look.
Constantly struggling with a poor relationship with food, deprivation, restriction, binge eating, purging, diet pills & yo-yo dieting, I dug myself into an even bigger hole of self-destruction & dislike. When that wasn’t enough, I turned back to exercise … overtraining, too much cardio, all on limited calories (sound familiar?).
It was then that I began to research nutrition & veganism. What may have started as a last resort, turned into an everlasting passion for health & fitness. Through my research, I learned the importance of food & food quality.
I attended the Institute for Integrative Nutrition in NYC where I became a Certified Holistic Health Coach, AADP. It was during this time I began to experiment with the many dietary theories out there including paleo, gluten-free, macrobiotics, etc. I remained active but this time, from a place of health & positive intention.
I broke into the mixed martial arts field & began teaching kickboxing & boxing. In an effort to balance my lifestyle, I went through yoga teacher training & became an RYT – 200HR. It was on this path I discovered the sport of bodybuilding.
With every ounce, I’ve devoted myself to health & fitness. I intend to be a symbol of strength to those looking for that extra edge on the ‘healthy lifestyle.’ My passion has led me to my purpose of working with clients to help guide them into a kick-ass active life FULL of healthy, happy [easy] eating & movement.
Studies show that less than 5% of people who want to get fit actually follow through.
